Davidson From 21 June 1905, Clark County (IL) Herald D. J. Davidson died at his home in this city Monday night at 11 o'clock from heart failure. Mrs. Davidson heard him move as though getting up and upon looking was horrified to find him dying. He had been feeling as well as usual and had retired some time before, after spending the evening up town in consultation with some oil men. The funeral services were held this afternoon at 3 o'clock by Rev. O. H. Denny and W. M. Hailey, under the auspices of the Masonic lodge of which order he had been a member for many years. Daniel J., son of John and Paulina Davidson, was born in Darwin township, Clark county, Illinois, Nov. 8, 1839. He was the third child of a family of six children. He stayed on the farm until 1867. In December 1862, he was married to Anna Sanford, she dying Nov. 20, 1863. On March 11, 1875, he was married to Abbie A. Smith, who survives him. Mr. Davidson was a harness maker by trade and engaged in that business in this city after 1880. In 1872 he was nominated by the democrats for circuit clerk and was elected. He succeeded himself in that office in 1876, retiring in 1880 to go into business. Of recent years he has been engaged in the insurance and real estate business and has managed some of the largest realty deals in this section of the state. He was elected assessor of Marshall township last year and completed the work of that office just a few weeks before his death. He has for some time been interested in the oil and gas business and has taken many leases on the county for his firm. He was the father of ten children, all living and at home, who with the mother are left to mourn his death. Mr. Davidson enjoyed a large acquaintanceship in this part of the state. He formerly took quite an active part in politics, but had not for several years. He was of a kindly and generous nature and had a host of friends.
