Garver Wednesday, 6 February 1918, Clark County (IL) Democrat Word has been received of the death of Roy O. Garver, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Garver, which occured in a hospital in England, where he was taken after a fall from an airoplane. He was in training with the Royal Flying Corps in the south part of England and was making a practice flight, when his plane crashed to the ground from a hight of 150 feet. Roy's parents, formerly lived in Dolson township, but moved to Decatur, the father now being dead. He enlisted in the Aviation Corps at Washington a few months ago, and was sent for training to Columbus, Ohio. From there he was transferred to England to complete his training, and had been in England but a few weeks. He was a nephew of A. J. Garver and E. S. Jones of this city. The Chicago Examiner, in speaking of his death says: An effort will be made to bring here for burial the body of Roy O. Garver, 25, killed in an airplane accident in England. Confirmation of the news of his death on Jan. 28, has just been received by his mother. A few hours before the wires brought the tragic news, his mother had received a letter from Roy bidding her not to worry about him and another relative who had joined the flying service. Young Garver had been in England since September for special training in aviation. He had recently been made first lieutenant and had been making trips without an instructor for the last six weeks in the school at Shoreham. He was a stenographer in the office of Secretary of the Navy Daniels when war was declared, and at once enlisted, getting his preliminary training at Columbus, Ohio.
