Hurst was born August 20, 1856, in Dolson township, and died at his home in Marshall, Illinois, on November 9, 1922, age 66 years, 2 months and 15 days. On March 13, 1879, he was married to Miss Barbara E. Clark who with one daughter, Ethel, survive him. After a number of years on the farm, Mr. and Mrs. Hurst moved to Marshall where he has since resided.  He was engaged for a number of years in the monument business.  Recently, upon the failure of his health, he retired from active business. Mr. Hurst was converted in early manhood and united with the Methodist church at Dolson chapel.  After coming to Marshall he transferred his membership to the Methodist church in town, of which he continued to be a faithful and consistent member. Besides his wife and daughter, he leaves two brothers, George W. of Marshall, and Frank M. of Chicago; also one half-brother, John L. of Dolson township and two half-sisters, Mrs. Amanda Bishop and Mrs. Anna Higgins, besides many relatives and friends. The funeral services were held at the late home on Saturday afternoon at 2:30, in charge of his pastor, Rev. C. E. Pettit.  Music was furnished by the church male quartet.
