He died Dec. 26th, 1899, aged 81 years, 10 months and 3 days. Mr. Hurst came to Illinois in 1832, living for a few years in Edgar county and then moving to Clark. He was married three times. His first wife was Harriet Craig, who died in 1856. Then his second wife he married Sarah J. Rains. She died in 1864. His third wife was Miss Nancy Harner, and she departed this life in May, 1893. Mr. Hurst was frequently honored with places of public truest and he never disappointed the confidence reposed in him. He held three different county offices, associate judge, sheriff, and treasurer. His accounts were always found correct and we earnestly belive and trust that the great judge of all will find all straight with him on the last great day. He united with the Church of Christ many years ago and tho not always faithful to his vows (and who of us is) yet he loved to be in the church and believed in the Bible and the worship of God. He was always ready to do a Christian act. He never took the name of God in vain nor blushed to own the cause of Christ. In his last years he took great delight in reading God's Word and talking over it with famliy and callers. Mr. Hurst was admitted to practice law before the Supreme Court and took great pride in exhibiting his certificate. He leaves nine children: Allen, ? Celia Towell, Mrs. Evaline Reed, Mrs. Emily Hawkins, Seymour, Wellington, Mintie, Myrtie and Nicholas. He also leaves three brothers--John, H. M. and James Hurst, and two sisters--Mrs. ? H. Michael and Mrs. Vica Davis. Among his descendents are numbered 27 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. The funeral services were held at the family residence on Thursday, Dece. 28, Elder J. A.
