He was married March 27, 1858 to Sarah Vanhowton. To this union two children were born, one of whom survives him. He was again married to Dorah Stevens November 23, 1877, and to this union four children were born, who are still living. Mr. Ladd was a very quiet, unpretentious gentleman pursuing a straightforward course through life, doing his plain duty through life as he saw it, regardless of friends or foes. Asking no public favors he catered to no public whim. He never sought to extend his acquaintance but had many true, tried and trusted friends. His genial disposition invited confidence and never was it misplaced or betrayed. He united with the church at an early age and lived a consistent Christian for many years. He was not an exception to the frailties of human nature and sometimes stepped aside from the paths of rectitude but his sting of conscience would prevail over his wrongs and put him right. He stated to his friends that he was at peace with his Maker. The funeral services were held at the residence of Grant Haddix, after which the remains were laid to rest in the private Haddix cemetery.
