Mathews in company with the other section men--Milt Thornsburg, Oscar Horner and Ben Rahel, were going east on a hand car, when the train showed up around a curve a short distance away. A frantic effort was made to get the car off the track to prevent a possible wreck, and Mathews continued in this effort until struck by the train. The car was demolished, Mathews was instantly killed and Thornsburg severely bruised by being struck by pieces of the car. The funeral will be held at the Methodist church at 2:30 this afternoon, conducted by Rev. Hamand. The Knights of Pythias and Red Men will have charge. The deceased was 54 years old and leaves on son, Prof. Fenton Mathews. File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/il/clark/obits/m/amathews.txt File size: 2 Kb
