He fought the grim tyrant long and hopelessly and had to succumb at last. The body was brought here for burial last Saturday and the funeral services were held in the Congregational church. The many beautiful floral offerings testified to the love in which he was held. Jean was the youngest of the three sons of Frank and Mary Miller. He was born in Marshall, Feb. 28, 1884. He was never a strong child but a braver, brighter, more energetic spirit never lived. He was always ready to work and would hunt employment if none was offered him. His mother died in December, 1889, and his father in 1894. After the latter’s death he lived for more years with Mrs. Emma Lockard, the Ed Parrish of Paris was his guardian. He was a favorite with all, both for his quaint sayings and his ever readiness to help. Jean’s health began to fail in 1899, after he had attended school in Paris a term. He was sent to Idaho in 1900, to live with an aunt, in the hope of restoring his health. He was so homesick, however, that he longed constantly to return and this interfered with his recovery. Last August he returned to Paris but left the next day for Amarillo, Texas, accompanied by his oldest brother, Byrd. They removed later to San Antonio and there, on Wednesday evening at 7 o’clock, the gentle spirit took its flight and our little friend is now but a sweet memory. Byrd was with him to the last and a more devoted nurse or untiring watcher he could not have asked. He brought the remains to Marshall for interment. He and Harry have the sincere sympathy of all in their sorrow for the loss of their dearly loved little brother. Jean was an earnest Christian lad. Death was to him but the transition to the glorious life above.
