He was loading a 22 magazine rifle when his hand slipped & in some manner threw the magazine down throwing a load into the gun & causing it to explode by the hammer coming down on it, the wound is a very bad one, the bullet having not been located. Reports that the young man was dangerous wounded were circulated Wednesday morning. Later it was reported the physicians said he could not live. He died about 2 o'clock Wednesday. The funeral was held at the Baird cemetery Thursday afternoon. Martinsville Planet MARSHALL HERALD - 02NOV1910 - KILLED WITH TARGET TIFLE - MARTINSVILLE CORRESPONDENCE Tommy Poe, son of J. V. & Mrs. Poe, southwest of the city, while in the city last Tuesday visiting his brother, John, & family, was handling a repeating rifle. It was accidently discharged, the bullet entering the lower part of the abdomen ranging upward. At first it was not thought to be dangerous, but the second day about noon he passed away. His funeral was held Thursday; interment in Baird cemetery. Tommy was aged 18 years; was a kind, affectionate & industrious boy & all the young people who knew his were his friends.
