Mr. Richards was born on the old farm in Melrose township, Clark County, on November 2, 1863, the youngest of a family of four children, all of whom with his parents, have preceded him in death. Early in life he united with the church and as a preparation for the ministerial work which he followed for 35 years, he spent three years at DePauw University at Greencastle, and graduating in 1895. He was united in marriage on June 19, 1884 with Sarah Elizabeth Weir. To this union three children were born, Mrs. John Scholfield (Bertha Opal) of Marshall, Illinois, Dr. Fred W. Richards of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Stanley S Richards of Findlay, Ohio. Also, five grandchildren, Warren R., Betty Lou, and Anna Katherine Scholfield, and Stanley Wayne and Elizabeth Ann Richards. The funeral was held at the home September 2, and was conducted by Rev. Laren Spear. Mrs. Olin R. Clements sang two beautiful numbers. Burial was made at the Bradbury cemetery near York.
