Stinson Wednesday, 6 February 1918, Clark County (IL) Democrat James A. Stinson, youngest son of Samuel and Sarah Stinson, was born in Kashakton, Ohio, September 10, 1841, and quit the walks of men Feb. 1, 1918, at the age of 76 years, 4 months and 21 days. In the year of 1849, he came with his parents to Illinois and settled in Clark County where since he has made his home. October 22, 1862, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Kidwell, who survives him. Although this union was blessed with but one son who died at the early age of 14 years, they also raised three orphan children, showing their readiness to ever assist those who needed their help. Several years ago, he united with the Christian Church and was buried with his Savior in baptism by Elder Isaac Lamb. During the first ministry of Elder T. D. Davis at this place, he united with the Clarksville Church and endeavored to be a true follower until the time of his death. He told the ones that were praying for him the day he died that he had never ceased to pray as he believed his Savior would care for his soul. He was a kind and affectionate husband being at all times considerate for those he mixed with here. During his early life, he was a successful school teacher and a farmer, until a few years ago when he came to live at the late home in Clarksville. Death resulted from an attack of pneumonia taken about a week ago. Besides a wife, he leaves to mourn his departure, a sister, several nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends, who will sadly miss him from his home, and the community. We are saddened because God, in his infinite wisdom, has seen fit to call one of his own from our midst yet we mourn not as those who have no hope, for we know there is hope beyond this veil of tears, and that He who is our great Comforter will someday wipe away all tears and we shall see that the way he leads is the best and only way. May God comfort the bereft. Funeral service was held at Clarksville church, February 3, Rev. Eckel officiating after which the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery near by.
