He was converted and united with the Mt. Olive Baptist church, Feb. 15, 1916, and was baptized into the fellowship of the same by Eld. T. J. Wheeler.  While not active in a public way in church work, he lived a faithful and devoted life to his church and the christian life.  He was a great lover of music, and if he should have devoted his time and talent to the smae, he might have been a great leader in this line. Roy made friends whereever he went, being of a cheerful and congenial disposition.  In business he was loved and respected, in the home he was the happiest, among his friends he was highly esteemed, loved and respected by all who had learned to know him. He leaves to survive him his young and devoted companion, father and mother, one sister, Mrs. Lester Swope of near Martinsville, Illinois, with a host of other relatives and friends on every hand. "Thou art gone to the grave, but we will not deplore thee, Though sorrow and darkness encompass the tomb; The Savior has passed through its portals before thee, And lamp of His love is thy guide through the doom." "Thou art gone to the grave; but we will not deplore thee, Since God was thy ransom, thy guardian, thy guide; He gave thee, he took thee, and he will restore thee; And death hath no sting since the Savior has died."   Funeral services were held at the Mt. Olive church, Monday, December 19, at 1:30 conducted by his ___ Elder J. F. P--- assisted by Elder G. A. Fuson.  Burial was in the cemetery near by.  T. J. Wheeler.
