For several years he has been ailing but has ever cheerful disposition kept those around him from knowing his silent suffering. He, with his parents and one sister, Mrs. Katherine Davison, were among the earliest settlers of Clark county, having emigrated from Virginia in December 1830. Since that time, save a few years hunting and trapping in the West, Clark county has been his home. In January 1851, he married Susanna Cline, who survives him. Early in life he entered the Masonic lodge and was faithful to the order to the last having expressed a desire to die accoring the prescriptions of the order. As a father, a more patient, faithful, sympathizing one could not be found--never complaining and always forgetful of self. As a friend, none knew a more jovial, faithful one. He saw good in every one and was never known to ill use even those against him. Even so, he was as his blessed Master whom he was so ready to meet. Besides his wife, he leaves three sons--John D., Henry W., and Andrew; two daughters--Mrs. Angie L. Crumrin and Mrs. Clara Adele Burnsides; three brothers--James M., Webster W. and Enoch; two sisters-- Mrs. Katherine Davidson and Mrs. Serenia Snyder, twnty grand children and three great grandchildren. Funeral services were held in the Livingston church Sunday morning. , Rev. H. W. Huston officiating. The burial services were under the auspices of the Masonic lodge.
