He was still alive when picked up by the Benny Marrs ambulance of Marshall, but died while enroute to that city. Mrs. Wilhoit and Lawrence (Bud) Herrintton, also occupants of the Wilhoit light truck, were not seriously injured. Mrs. Wilhoit received a cut on on eye-lid which required nine stitches, and bruises about the body. Herrington escaped with only slight abrasions. The trio had spent the evening with Mrs. Wilhoit's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sheridan Hughes, near Marshall. From there they went on a swimming party, and after taking a friend of Lawrence's home, were returning to Kansas. At the time of the accident, Mrs. Wilhoit was driving the car. On the gravel road a short distance east of Clarksville, a car from the west loomed up before them, crowded them off the road, and in order to avoid a collision, Mrs. Wilhoit drove into the ditch, the car turning over and pinning Lewis Adin beneath it. He was severely crushed about the chest. The accident occurred about 2 a.m. but it was not until about 5 o'clock that the first passerby--Robert Wilson, of Marshall--came along. He summoned the Benny Marrs ambulance from Marshall and assisted in removing the injured from the scene. Wilhoit was still breathing when picked up but died while enroute to Marshall. Mrs. Wilhoit and Herrington were treated at the office of a Marshall physician. Mr. Wilhoit's body was first taken to the Marrs funeral home in Marshall and after the inquest was brought to the Forbes-Hutchins funeral home here to be prepared for burial. An inquest was held Wednesday morning in Marshall by the Clark county coroner, the jury returning a verdict of accidental death as the result of injuries suffered in the accident. Lawrence Herrington was the only witness to testify at the inquest. Lewis Adin Wilhoit, son of the late R. A. Wilhoit and Mrs. Dorthy Wilhoit, was born May 1, 1917, on the farm where he had lately resided, one and a half miles south of Kansas. He attended the Kansas grade and high school. On May 23, 1940, he was married to Miss Dorothy Louise Hughes of Marshall, who survives, together with his mother, one sister, Mrs. John Newell, Charleston, and his grandmother, Mrs. Eva Wilhoit. The funeral will be held at 4 o'clock Friday afternoon in the home of Mr. Wilhoit's mother, Mrs. Dorothy Wilhoit. Rev. H. L. Hayes, pastor of the Paris Christian Church, will be in charge of the service. Bearers will be Charles Templeton and Harry Figenbaum, Neoga; Wayne Saxton, Calvin Cook, Laurence Herrington, and Truman Moore. Interment will follow in Fairview cemetery.
