Whitlock, formerly of Marshall, but who had been an honored citizen of Tuscola, for many years, was held at the home of his mother, Mrs. Florence Whitlock in Marshall at 3 o’clock Friday afternoon conducted by Rev. R. C. Briston of the Congregational Church and the Knights of Pythias Lodge had charge. Mr. Whitlock’s body was found Wednesday afternoon at the bottom of a well on a farm two miles north of Farmersburg, Ind., by three boys. Mr. Whitlock left his house in Tuscola Monday to go to Champaign to give a talk before an organization and from a note left in his pocket it seems he came down to Marshall Tuesday, in the night and went out to his father’s grave and then walked to Farmersburg, Ind. The body was found by three boys who were picking blackberries. An investigation showed that Mr. Whitlock had taken a quantity of poison and jumped into the well. He left a note to his wife which was found in his clothing, but no reason is knows for the rash act. Whitlock was cashier at the First National Bank at Tuscola and had been there for 25 or 26 years. Before that time he was in Danville with Public Railway Service Company and formerly lived in Marshall and is known to many Marshall residents as well as to everyone in this section of the state. He was Grand Chancellor of the Knights of Pythias lodge in the state, the highest office in that organization. He is survived by his wife, his mother, Mrs. Florence Whitlock, one daughter, Mrs. Clarence Hackett, of Akron, Ohio, and two grandchildren, Barbara Ann and Walter Hackett.
