Civil War Enlistment Certifiate - September 10, 1923

State of Illinois
Office of Adjutant General

It is hereby certified that is appears from the records of this office that
William Morefield enlisted on 25th day of July, 1861 at Clay City, Illinois.
Mustered into the United States Service as a Private Company K, 40th
Regiment, Illionis Volunteer Infantry.
Period of three years on 10th day of August, 1861.  Residence when
enlisted, Clay City, Clay County, Illinois.
Certificate requested by Commandant, Soldiers' & Sailors Home, Burkett,Nebr.
Comments: Age, 22 years; Height, 5 feet, 10 inches; Hair, sandy; Eyes,
gray;Complexion, fair; Single; Occupation, farmer; Native of Clark County,
Indiana.Reenlisted as veteran volunteer, Jan.  1, 1864 for a period of
three years and was mustered into service of the United States January 30,
1864.  Mustered out July 24, 1865 at Louisville, KY.
