Elmer Kaltenbronn, 17 years old, employed in the mine of the Southern Coal 
Company at New Baden, died from the effects of a blow given by Joseph Drowy, a 
lad who also working in the mine. Kaltenbronn had been tantalizing the Drowy 
boy and finally struck him. The latter struck Kaltenbronn over the head with a 
piece of wire. This happened in the afternoon, Kaltenbronn was found dead in 
his bed the next morning. The coroner's jury exonerated the Drowy boy, it 
being claimed that is was a justifiable act.
