Walter M. Theobald, pastor of the FIrst Methodist Church. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will begin at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Thursday. Mr. Bates was born September 17, 1869 at Clinton, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Frances M. Bates. He had been married to Maude Council of Lincoln and they had a daughter Frances Willard. His other survivor is a sister, Mrs. Jessie Warnock of Memphis, Tenn. Mr. Bates, in his early life, was a painter and paper hanger in Clinton.
