KINZEL and REBECCA McLAIN, was born 24 May 1853 in Eagleport, Morgan, Ohio, and died 18 Jan 1934 in Oakland, Coles County, Illinois. He married SARAH LETITIA ZIMMERMAN 06 Feb 1878 in Oakland, Coles, Illinois, daughter of WILLIAM ZIMMERMAN and LOUISA BLACK. She was born 16 Apr 1854 in Oakland, Coles County, Illinois, and died 30 Mar 1944 in Oakland , Coles County, Illinois. This appeared in the Oakland Messenger at the time of his death: LAST RITES HELD SUNDAY P.M. FOR JOHN Q. KINZEL Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, 2 o'clock from Oakland Presbyterian church for J. Q. Kinzel who died late Thursday night following an illness of some eighteen months. Rev. O. C. Starn officiated. Interment in Oakland cemetery. Mr. Kinzel was well known in this city being identified with the development and in former years served as Mayor for one term and was for years a member of the school board. In his passing Oakland lost a mighty fine man, one who was always interested in his home town's welfare and his death leaves a wife, daughters and sons in deep sorrow for a loving husband and father. OBITUARY John Quincy Kinzel, son of John and Rebecca Kinzel, was born at Eagleport, Morgan Co., Ohio, on May 24, 1853, departed this life January 18, 1934. Mr. Kinzel thus lived his allotted time of three score years and ten, his span of life covering 80 years, 7 months and 24 days. When a boy of eight he came with his parents in a covered wagon to Coles County, Illinois, where he has resided ever since. They settled north of Charleston where he grew to manhood. He is the last member of a family of seven children. On February 6, 1878 he was married to Sarah Zimmerman. This union has remained intact for nearly 56 years. Into this home came eight children, all of whom survive: Jessie Gant and Josie Webster of Oakland, Lula Bae Cash, Nelle Briscoe, Leota Laudermilk, Zadah Thomas and Robert J. Kinzel of Chicago and Oberlin B. Kinzel of Charleston, Ill. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. Mr. and Mrs. Kinzel have lived in their present location in Oakland since September 1890. Mr. Kinzel was a farmer and stock raiser all of his active life. He was a member of the Oakland Presbyterian church for about 40 years. Also a member of the Modern Woodman and of the Order of Royal Neighbors. He was a member of the School board for a good many years serving as a clerk a greater portion of the time. He served several terms as president of the board. Mr. Kinzel was honored by the people of Oakland by their selecting him for their Mayor in which capacity he served for one term, refusing to accept an opportunity for a second. Thus his life was full of activity as a good citizen and in behalf of his fellow men. He closed his life with many friends, which is an honor to any man, who will greatly miss him. One could look for him regularly at mail time. He always had time and enjoyed to stop and talk with friends. No one received from him discourteous words or unkind gestures. He possessed a keen sense of humor and enjoyed a hearty laugh. He was especially noted for his pleasant and gentle nature. More men like him would greatly increase the happiness and friendliness of our world. He is gone but not forgotten for he has left behind him "footprints on the sands of time."
