He was the, chief designer of the Iowa Iron Works at Dubuque; was mechanical engineer of the Chicago Great Western Railway; and later became consulting engineer in the Chicago office of the General Electric Company. He was the designer and builder of the Intramural Railway at the World's Columbian Exposition. In 1902 he was Consulting Engineer for the City of Chicago to devise the street railway system, and in 1907-08 had charge of the rehabilitation of the entire street railway system of Chicago.
