Author: Mae Felts Herringshaw (1916)

  Bates, Onward, Civil Engineer of 332 South Michigan Avenue, was born Feb. 24,
1850, in St. Charles County, Mo. In 1888-1901 he was Engineer and Superintendent
of Bridges and Buildings of the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railway. Since
1901 he has been President of the Bates and Rogers Construction Company. He is a
member of the University Club.
