In 1900 he received the degree of M. E. from Cornell University; and in 1904 was Instructor in Marine Engineering in that institution. In 1904-7 he was Steam Engineer with the Illinois Steel Company; and 1907-11 Smoke Inspector of the City of Chicago. He is now a member of the firm of Norton and Bird. In 1910 he was President of the International Association for Prevention of Smoke. He is a member of the Western Society of Engineers, National Electric Light Association; and the University and Exmoor Country Clubs.
