Jim was serving aboard a submarine on his first actual combat trip and hope is held for his safe return. His sister, Mrs. E. H. Niemeyer, believes the sub has not been away from its base long enough to warrant a "missing in action." Jim entered the navy in May of 1942 and was stationed at Great Lake until he reported to the submarine school at New London, Connecticut. He left for Stater in March of this year, going to a South Pacific base.
