HENRY GROSS WOUNDED BY BANDIT Dr. Henry Gross of Chicago, former football star at Dubuque high school and at Iowa university, is in a Chicago hospital recovering from wounds received when three men attempted to hold up an automobile in which he and Barney Hernandez, also of Chicago, were riding. Hernandez received wounds from which he later died, and one of the robbers, Roger Bessmer, of Chicago, was wounded by Dr. Gross and captured by Chicago police. He will face a charge of murder. The shooting occurred just as the doctor's car pulled up and stopped in front of his home at 830 Galt avenue Saturday evening. When the three stickup men stepped up to the car, Dr. Gross pulled his own revolver. Bessmer was the first to be wounded. It is believed that another of the three bandits was wounded by Dr. Gross. Chicago police believe they have a clue to the identity of the stickup men.
