Mr. Alton came to Chicago twenty-six years ago from Covington, N.Y. where he was born. He had lived there and at Rochester and Leroy, N.Y., before coming here. After living in a short time in Chicago he engaged in farming on a large scale for several years near Grand Forks, N.D. Last Monday, after being out for a walk, he was stricken with apoplexy, and remained unconscious till the end came at 8 p.m. yesterday. Mr. Alton was a member of Trinity Methodist Church. Surviving him are his widow, and three sons, D.C. Alton and William ALton Jr., of this city and J.B. Alston of Evanston. THe funeral will take place at 2 p.m. tomorrow from the residence. Interment will be at Rosehill and private.
