She was the widow of John Barchard, who emigrated from England to this county in 1831, and located and entered a farm on the west side of the Desplaines River, a little south of the present line of the Chicago and Northwestern railroad, where he died in 1858. At the time of her death, Mrs. Barchard was in her 85th year. three children survive her -- Mrs. Mary Pitt, residing at Desplaines, and John and Ira Barchard. The former is a veterinary surgeon of the Chicago Police. Department and the latter is engaged in the real-estate business in this city.
