    Dubuque Herald, May 3, 1898

    Mrs. Jean Busby died on the first Sabbath in May, 1898. She was born in
Scotland and lived in her native town of Paisley until she grew to womanhood.
After her marriage to James Busby they came to this country and settled in the
county of St. Lawrence, New York. Some years later they moved to Chicago. Here
the great sorrow of her life came upon her in the loss of her husband in 1855.
How well she cared for her large family, educating and training them for
usefulness in life, only those who knew her personally can testify. It was a
struggle but nobly did she accomplish the task. Seven children survive her, six
of whom will follow her remains to their last place in Fonda, Iowa, where Mrs.
Busby made her home for many years.

    It should be stated that Mrs. Busby came to Dubuque with her family soon
after her husband's death and this was her home for twenty-five years. Of late
years she has resided with her daughter, Mrs. George L. Brower, in Rockwell City
and also in Des Moines. During the past year and a half she resided with her
daughter, Mrs. Peter Kiene, of this city. Her other children are: Mrs. George
Butterfield, Prattfield, California; Mrs. C. D. Lucas, Cherokee, Iowa; W. J.
Busby, Fonda, Iowa, Mrs. C. Bayless and Miss Rebecca Busby, of this city.
Besides these there were two sons, Robert J. Busby and Eben Busby, deceased,
known to many people in Dubuque for their manly qualities of heart and mind.
Such is the record of a noble Christian mother.
