Mr. Carney was born in a log cabin on the site of the Comstock residence, Ridge avenue and Dempster street. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. John Carney, who came from Ireland and were the first settlers at Evanston, in 1835. The decedent was the first chief of police of Evanston, being appointed in 1872 and served ten years.
