Dennis Corcoran, 1320 Central Av., was pronounced dead on arrival at Evanston Hospital, the victim of electrocution. The incident occured at approximately 3:15 p.m. in Kenilworth, when the youth attempted to climb onto a boathouse owned by George T. Drake, 143 Sheridan Rd. The boathouse is located at the end of a jetty near the public beach at Mahoney Park. Kenilworth Police Chief Edward Eggert said the boy was straddling a pipe containing electrical wires used to operate a boat lift when the pipe gave way, exposing the wires. One of the youth's legs was in the water. Eggert says Drake and village officials attempted on numerous occasions to stop youngsters from leaving the public beach and entering Drake's property. "No tresspassing" and "no swimming" signs have been torn down. Four other youths winessed the death, all of whom were in the immediate area of the boat house. They observed the Corcoran boy freeze on the pipe and then fall into the water. He was quickly pulled out. Minutes later, police arrived and began resuscitation attempts. An ambulance crew from the Winnetka Fire Department then arrived, and also was unsuccessful in attempts to revive the boy. Resuscitation continued at the Evanston Hospital, to no avail. Kenilworth police officers James Fullington and Clyde Fazenbaker handled the investigation. They were unable to find any shorts in the wiring. Funeral mass for Dennis was said Monday at St. Joseph Church in Wilmette. Born in Evanston, he was a member of the church and a student at Logan School in Wilmette. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Corcoran; three brothers James, Daniel and Thomas; three sisters Kathleen, Deborah, and Theresa; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James Corcoran and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Devoss. Burial was in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
