Ennis, pioneers of Macon county and owners of large holdings of land here, died Sunday in an Evanston hospital, following an illness of several months. Berry Ennis, as he was known in Decatur, was well known among the older residents. His parents came here In the early days of the county and invested heavily in land, and the three children, Robert Berry, Will and George, grew to manhood here. The Ennis home was on College Hill, the present site of the A. E. Staley home. They attended school here, and Berry was graduated from Harvard, attending that institution at the same time as Dr. Will Barnes. The family moved from this county many years ago, Will and Berry going to Chicago and George, the only surviving brother, going to California. Will Ennis died three years ago. Decatur friends of Berry Ennis had known for months that he was in wretched health and news of his death was not a surprise to them. He is survived by his wife, the one brother, several nephews and a niece, children of his brother, Will. Decatur and Macon county holdings of the Ennis family totaled at one time more than a million dollars. Three important Water street buildings, 207 North Water street, the one at 143 North Water street and the building occupied by the Stewart Dry Goods were owned by the three brothers besides hundreds of acres of farms. Ten years ago it was known that farms in Macon, Piatt and Moultrie totaled 5500 acres. The funeral is to be held in Evanston at the home at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery, Chicago.
