Chicago Daily Tribune - April 2, 1911
D. Edwin Hartwell, secretary of Swift & Co., died at his residence, 4825 Drexel 
boulevard, yesterday.  Death was caused by peritonitis. Mr. Hartwell, who was 
secretary of the packing firm since its incorporation, was a close personal friend 
and adviser of the late G.F. Swift.  Mr. Hartwell was born Dec. 23, 1837.  He was 
a member of the Union League Club, the Chicago Athletic club, the Bankers' club, 
and Midlothian and Kenwood County clubs.  He was interested in many business 
enterprises.  Funeral services will be held this morning at 9 o'clock.  The body 
will be taken to Nashua, N.H. for burial.
