He was 50 years old and was secretary of the Haymarket Riot Veterans' association. He was also a member of the Policemen's Benevolent Association and of the United Police association. He left a widow and a son. Helgo, until his suspension, was a license officer at the Irving Park station. His widow said he had brooded over his suspension and feared he would be discharged.
