MARIA C. HIGGINS PASSES FROM EARTH LIFE Mrs. Maria C. Higgins, nee Whiting, daughter of John D. and Lucinda Whiting was born June 3, 1858 in her parents' home in Elk Grove. She was united in marriage with Henry P. Higgins November 4, 1880. One daughter, Alice, now Mrs. George Hughes, was born to them. Their home was for eight years in Libertyville. After the death of her husband, Mrs. Higgins with her little daughter, came to Arlington Heights. Here she lived with the exception of a few years in Winterset, Iowa, the remainder of her life. She united withe the Presbyterian church in 1880, and in the church in this place has always been a faithful attendant in the Bible class and services of the church. She died in the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Hughes, Friday morning, August 26th after many years of suffering, aged 74 years, two months, and 23 days. Mrs. Higgins leaves one daughter and one son-in-law; her two sisters, Mrs. Stella Thurber, and Mrs. Laura Crane, of this town; and one brother, Elmer E. Whiting of Des Monies and several nieces and nephews, and cousins, beside a number of number of lifelong friends and neighbors. The funeral was held Monday afternoon at the chapel on West Campbell street and at 2:30 at the Presbyterian church, the pastor, Rev. H.A. Kossack, in charge of services, Mrs. Grace Lorensen and Mr. John Allen sung appropriate hymns with Mrs. Marjorie Allen, organist. Also at the burial services, Mrs. Lorenzen sang. The pall bearers were Messrs. U.A. Reese, Charles Petterson, H.M. Blume, Martin Fehlman, S.E. Pate, and Levi Heap. Interment was in Arlington Heights cemetery. To all who morn and especially to Mrs. Higgins' daughter, Mrs. Alice Hughes, who has never been separated any length of time from her mother, we extend heartfelt sympathy.
