LAVERN MCGREW DIES IN PACIFIC

Word was received recently of the death of Lauren McGrew, grandson of Henry
Hansen of Palatine.  Pfc. McGrew was in a Hawaiian hospital recuperating from
malaria when last heard from abut two months ago.  Notice to his mother in
Chicago from the war department merely stated that he had been killed in line of
duty.

Lavern entered the service about 2 1/2 years ago, entering the marines.  He
served with the marines on Guadalcanal, and participated in the battle of Tarawn.

Buried in Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, Sangamon County, Illinois

**He was 17 years old and died 1 month before his 18th birthday**
