Phillips, a Civil War veteran, died suddenly yesterday at the home of his son, Harry C. Phillips, 825 West Fifty-sixth street. He was one of the three surviving soldiers in Chicago who were present at Gen. Lee's surrender. Mr. Phillips was born June 17, 1842 at Marcy, New York, and lived in Chicago fifty years. He was a building contractor.
