Knudt Mjelde served during the Civil War with the 15th Wisconsin Infantry.  He 
was mustered out in November, 1862 in Wisconsin.

On April 13, 1875 he became a naturalized citizen in the circuit court of 
Dane, County, Wisconsin (certificate number A10-322).  His naturalization is 
listed as "K.J. Mjelde," and he is shown as having been born in 1834.

The 1910 U.S. census for Chicago Ward 15 has him listed as Knud J. Mjelde,a 
showmaker owning his own shop.  Also listed are his wife Ingeborg Marie, and 
daughters Valborg and Nora.
