ILIFF, farmer, P. O. Palestine, was born July 30, 1839, in Hampshire County, W. Va. He is a son of James Iliff. Mr. Z. Iliff spent most of his early life among strangers, being six years in Ohio. In 1866, he came to Crawford County, where he was joined in matrimony, May 14, 1868, to Mrs. Margaret Barker, born July 4, 1838; she is the daughter of William Hicks, whose father, William Hicks, Sr., was one of the pioneers of this county. William Hicks, Jr., married Elizabeth Montgomery, who was the mother of four children. Mrs. Iliff is the mother of three children-Charles Barker, born August 26, 1859, he died November 8, 1862, he was a son from her first husband; Lessie, born November 4, 1869; and Nora, born May 8, 1874, are from her second husband. On the 10th of February, 1865, Mr. Iliff obeyed the call of Union to defend the stars and stripes, and enlisted in the One Hundred and Eighty fifth Ohio Infantry Volunteers, and served till the close of the war. Mr. Iliff is independent in politics, and is a wide-awake, well-to-do farmer, and, together with his estimable wife, is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
