N. RAFFERTY, physician, Palestine. The subject of this sketch was born June 12, 1846, in Springville, Lawrence Co., Ind. His father was M. C. Rafferty, born 1816, near Covington, Ky, a merchant in Springville, who was joined in matrimony to Mary S. Benedict, born 1823, in Nicholasville, Ky. She was the mother of three children-Theodore N., Mollie E., Malcolm E. Our subject, Theodore N., went to school in Springville, Ind. In early life, he clerked in his father's store, and, after attending the State University at Bloomington, he taught school three years, but during that time he took a commercial course at Indianapolis, where he graduated. At an early age, he became imbued with a thirst for medical knowledge, and in the winter of 1867-68 he entered the Medical Department at Ann Arbor, Mich. He finished his medical studies in the Ohio Medical College at Cincinnati, where he graduated in the spring of 1869. He went back to his old home and practiced medicine one year; in the spring of 1870, he came to Palestine, where he follows his profession. Mr. Rafferty has served his township in the capacity of Township Supervisor for two years. He also filled school offices. He was married, at Palestine, October, 1827, to Miss Sadie E. Donnell, born in Palestine, March 12, 1849. She is the mother of three children, living-Pearl, born December 8, 1873; Herbert N., born September 22, 1878, and Glen A. born February 19, 1881. Her father, Dennis Donnell, was one of the pioneers of this county. The maiden name of her mother is Eliza Netherton. Our subject is a member of the county Medical Association, a Knight of Honor, a member the Esculapian Society of the Wabash Valley, and also a member of the Tri-State Medical Society.
