He was the son of Judge John Steers and was born near the farm on which he died, in November, 1842. He was married to Miss Juretta Schultz and six children were born to them, three sons and three daughters. The oldest son, Edward, is a member of Co. G, 9th Ill., now doing garrison duty in Cuba. Mr. Steers was a member of Co. H, of the 135th Ill., during the Rebellion, enlisting on May 2, 1864, and serving until September 28, 1864. He was an honest, upright citizen. The funeral was held at Grand Prairie Church Friday, conducted by Eld. M. V. Hathaway. Interment occurred in Eaton Cemetery.
