Woodmen Assist Sick Neighbor, Crawford County, Illinois This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Crawford County Web Site The spirit of fraternal charity displayed in an eminently practical manner last Thursday by the members of Camp # 2801, M. W. of America, toward their neighbor Charles Gaddis who has been suffering an attack of typhoid for some three weeks past. Mr. Gaddis has been worrying considerably about his corn crop since he has been ill , he having 27 acres of corn in this year on the Mrs. Alexander land north of town. On Tuesday 35 of the Modern Woodman with 17 teams gathered at the Gaddis home and employed picking the entire crop, placing Mrs. Alexander’s share in her crib, the balance in Mr. Gaddis crib and hauling 3 loads to town for immediate marketing. Orlando Walker, of the prairie, had the work in charge and divided the field up in a systematic manner and by 1:30 p.m. the entire 27 acres had been picked with as little waste as the most careful farmer could desire. The party provided their own dinners and report that the day was really an outing instead of one of lab! or. An expression of fraternity in a concrete form such as this is very commendable to the local Woodmen.
