ALEX SIMPSON CRUSHED TO DEATH Alex Simpson, a veteran of the Civil War met his death by a falling tree Wednesday while cutting timber on the A.S. Postlewaite farm. Last Wednesday morning at 10:45 while cutting timber on the A. S. Postlewaite farm, in company with three other men, employed by the Sullivan Lumber Co., Alex Simpson was killed by a falling tree. The tree had been cut and was just ready to fall and fearing it would fall on him he ran, as he thought in the direction of safety. In this he was mistaken for the tree fell on him and crushed him six inches in the earth breaking his neck, back, and badly mangling his body. The body was taken to David Fife's undertaking rooms where it was prepared for burial, and where an inquest was held by Coroner Parkinson of Oblong, and jury which returned a verdict of accidental death caused by a falling tree. Alexander Simpson was born in Kentucky June 11, 1845 and died May 18th, 1910 aged 64 years, 11 months and 24 days. he was married to Miss Parolee Persons, (or Parsons) Aug 10, 1869. Besides his wife he leaves to mourn 5 daughters and 4 sons, namely; Mrs. Black of Lamotte Prairie, Mrs. Mae Richey of near Flat Rock, Mrs. Myrtle Tyson, of Terre Haute, Mrs. Jerry Rosebolt and Glee of Palestine, Sam, Rolla, Roscoe, of Terre Haute and Earl of Palestine, besides other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. O. L. Markham at his home at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon after which interment was made in the Palestine Cemetery.
