Patton ( nee Wilson) who died Jan. 2, 1904 was married to Dr. E. L. Patton Dec. 31st 1835 who died Dec. 30, 1862 (and was born Dec. 6, 1817- age 86 years 27 days} She was the mother of 12 children, 9 of whom survive her -4 sons and 5 daughters to mourn our loss. Of these, 2 sons, one daughter-in-law and 5 single daughters were present at her side when the summons same to claim her spirit, to come up higher, and be at rest. She was a sufferer for five months, yet she murmured not. She was cheerful, patient and trustful. She said, whatever God decreed was right, that she confided all to Him. She tole he attending physician that " she was the eldest of 15 children, had outlived them all, and surely God had spared her life for a purpose and if it was to suffer, it was all right, and she would accept it cheerfully" And she did. She had a kind word for everybody. The many friends that came to see her, she would thank them and wish them well. So often she would say that she had so much to be thankful for, and that her cup runneth over. Her Christian life was the continual, gentle droppings of the Spirit, each day alike; fully trusting in Him that doeth all things right. During her 41 years of widowhood, she gave a home to her single son and 5 single daughters, to come up and do as duty called, a home for her married children and the grand children to come to, a home in which her many friends were made welcome. Her whole life was on of hospitality, up to its close. Indeed may her children rise up to call her blessed, and can say, we are thankful that God gave us so good and exemplary Mother.
