Obituary of Ezekiel BISHOP, Crawford County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 2000 Cindy McCachern Obituary of Ezekiel Bishop   Our people were not wholly unprepared for the announcement of the death of Mr. Ezekiel Bishop, which occurred on Sunday afternoon, 5th ___ as he had been in failing health for some two or three months, and for some two or three weeks it had been a conceded fact that he could not recover, that the end was not far off, and for three or four days prior to his death the end was almost hourly expected, as he had grown so weak. Mr. Bishop was born in Wayne county, North Carolina, February 22, 1816, and came to Illinois in 1828, with his parents, locating in this county, near Hutsonville.  His father was a farmer, and Mr. Bishop followed this business also until some six years ago, when he purchased property in Robinson, and became a citizen of our city. Mr. Bishop was a man of energy and economical habits, which, combined with his good management, made him successful in all his undertakings.  At the time of his death, he owned one of the best farms in the county, consisting of some two hundred acres, near Hutsonville, property in our city, and was a stockholder and director in the Robinson Bank.   Mr. Bishop was married in 1837 to Miss Rebecca Musgrave, in Vigo county, Ind., who died in 1881.  He was again married to Mrs. Mary J. Musgrave, who still survives him, as do also four children by his first wife.   In religion, Mr. Bishop was an adherent to the Universalist faith, and in his life he was honest and conscientious in all his dealings and relations with his fellow-man, his aim and purpose being to live a life blameless before God and man.  He was ever ready to contribute to the relief of the needy and suffering, and to do his aprt toward the advancement of any movement or enterprise for the improvement of the county. As a kind and generous neighbor and friend, he will be missed by many.   The funeral took place Monday from the family residence, and the remains were taken to Hutsonville at 4:20 p.m. by rail and from thence to the cemetery near his old home, where they were committed to their final resting place.   ----------------------------------------------------------------------- USGENWEB NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by other organizations or persons.
