Obituary of Eldridge KINNEY, Crawford County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 2000 Cindy McCachern Obituary of Eldridge Kinney 21 March 1902, Hutsonville (IL) Herald The announcement of the death of Eldridge Kinney, residing near Trimble came as a sad surprise to the citizens of this community yesterday morning. He had been confined to his bed for several weeks with a severe attack of rheumatism and although quite aged, it was not thought there was any immediate danger. On Wednesday morning, however, it was observed that his heart was effected and a gradual weakening of this member resulted in his death about 4 o'clock a.m. yesterday. Eldridge Kinney was a son of Mr. and Mrs. George Kinney and was born March 22, 1827, near the homestead of Andrew Newlin. During his youth he remained with his parents on the farm. Had he lived until tomorrow, he would have been 75 years of age. When the California gold fields were discovered in 1848, Mr. Kinney was one of the large number who went from this country to seek a fortune in the west. He returned two years later and shortly afterward married Louisa Rains and lived on a farm near the Oak Grove Baptist church. To this union were born five children, three sons still surviving as follows: A. B. Kinney of Trimble, H. I. Kinney of this place and Will Kinney of Arkansas. A few years following the death of his wife, which occurred in 1863, Mr. Kinney was again married to Miss Melissa Dudley, to whom were born five children, all of whom survive with their mother to mourn the loss of an affectionate father and husband. Their names are Fannie, Mattie, Dudley, George and Leo. Mr. Kinney was associated in business in Hutsonville with W. L. Draper a few years ago, but maintained his residence on the farm. In 1880 he removed to Trimble, where he has since resided, enjoying the friendship of every one with whom he came into contact. Mr. Kinney was one of those men whose acquaintanceship was appreciated and his life was crowned with deeds of charity. Funeral services will be conducted at the residence this morning at 10 o'clock and interment will be made on the Rains cemetery northwest of Hutsonville. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- USGENWEB NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by other organizations or persons.
