Gaines was born near Heathsville, Aug 4, 1881, being the eldest son of William and Amy Gaines.. Everett was a teacher in the Grammar Dept. of the City Schools here during the term of 1904-5 and it was while thus engaged that the first unmistakable symptoms of consumption made their appearance. He had already been licensed to preach by the M. E. Church while yet teaching. In Aug. 1905, he departed for Colorado and upon settling was given a regular charge which he was unable to hold but a few months as his health failed to improv! e as he had hoped. From the time of his resignation, his health had gradually grown worse with only occasionally periods of slight improvement until death came last Sat. Funeral services were conducted Monday and interment at Loveland Colorado. He is survived by his mother Mrs. Amy Gaines, one brother, Otho and two sisters, Misses Blanche and Wilma Gaines. He was preceded to the grave by two sisters, Miss Dora and Mrs. Nina Fulling. Messrs. I. H. Bussard and Duane Gaines, of this city were uncles of Rev. Gaines while Mrs. Harry Norton of Trimble, Mrs. J. S. Fullen of Hutsonville were his aunts.
