We expect the sun to set in the evening, the flowers to fade after their blooming, and the leaves to fall at the coming of the frost, but that the sun should set ere it reaches its zenith, that the flowers should wither at the time of their budding, that the leaves should fall before the appointed season--this is the uncertainty of life. It was such with Fern Layton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Armstead Layton, who died Sunday at the age of 19 years and 10 months. For three years she had an invalid, being confined to her bed the greater part of the time. She was a member of the Baptist Church at this place, and died triumphant in the faith. Fern was a young lady who made a friend of every one she met, and to whom her untimely demise is the cause of much sorrow. To the parents, sister and brothers the sympathy of all is extended. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at the church, and more than twice as many people as could gain entrance were present. The sermon was preached by Elder John L. Cox, being an excellent discourse on the victory over death achieved by the Savior. Interment was made in the cemetery north of town.
