Stifle, a pioneer of Crawford county, died at his country home north of Oblong Tuesday. Mr. Stifle had been in failing health for some time, suffering from a complication of diseases. The funeral services were held from the Prairie Grove Baptist church Wednesday morning, conducted by Rev. G. O. Mills. Interrment was made in the Wilkin cemetery. George W. Stifle, son of Stephen and Mary Stifle, was born March 30, 1844, near Athens, Ohio, being one of a family of ten who lived to be grown. With his parents he came to Crawford county, Illinois, in the year 1848, living within a few miles of the first settlement up to the time of his death October 24, 1916, at the age of 72 years, 6 months and 25 days. He was united in mariage to Rachel C. Lancaster March 15, 1861. To this union were born six children, who with his aged companion survive him. He is also survived by three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one brother, Charles M. Stifle.
