Obituary of Isaac CONNETT, Crawford County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 2000 Cindy McCachern  Obituary of Isaac Connett      Isaac Connett was born in Athens County, Ohio on September 6, 1823 and died in Olney Illinois February 17, 1917, age 93 years, 5 months and 11 days.  He came with his parents to Wells County, Indiana when a young man.  March 4, 1852, he united in marriage to Susannah Hammon and to this union was born nine children:  Louisa, who died in infancy; Rev. Allen W. of Philadelphia, Penn.; James E. of Miami, Oklahoma; Rev. Joseph B. of Olney, Ill.; Picket P. of Terre Haute, Ind.; Mrs. Fannie Shrader of Bell Rive, Ill.; Lydia, who died when 19 years of age; Frederick, who died when 2 years of age; and J. Milton of Rock Falls, Ill. In 1869, he moved with his family to Crawford County, Ill., and engaged in farming, continuing in this pursuit until incapacitated by age.  He then moved to Robinson where he lived until he went to Olney to make his home with his son.  For the last 14 months, he was an invalid, and for the last three months, he was perfectly helpless. He was converted at the age of 19 and became a member of the United Brethren Church, retaining membership therein for 75 years except for a few years when for convenience he held membership in the Friends Church. During the whole of this Church life, he was an active Christian, maintaining the family altar in the home regularly.  He was licensed to preach during his early married life, but never devoted himself regularly to the ministry, but at different times was Church trustee and steward often. He was a man of sturdy character with strong convictions, deeply interested in Christianity and moral reform. His wife passed away Feb. the 27, 1916, at the age of 84.  Since her death, he has been anxious to go, praying often for deliverance from the earthly house that he might enjoy the house not made with hands, eternal, in the heavens. He leaves to mourn, 6 children, 21 grandchildren, 8 great grand children, many relatives and friends. The body was brought here from Olney Monday morning February 19, and the funeral services were read at the United Brethren Church at 9:30 by Rev. J. C. Fowler. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- USGENWEB NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by other organizations or persons.
