JOSEPH LOUGHERY OBITUARY Bro. Joseph S. Loughery was born in Indiana on the 18th day of May 1869, died at his home in Palestine on March 16th, 1910. Bro. Loughery was reared and spent his life in and about this place, this having been his home since infancy. He was married to Miss Maude Richards in Robinson on Sept. 11th 1895. Bro. Loughery was initiated and passed in Palestine Lodge No. 849 A. F. & A. M. in November and December 1898 and was raised to the Supreme Degree of Master Mason in the same Lodge on the 30th of December 1899. He was a charter member of Vulcan Lodge No. 496 Knights of Pythias of this place and recently became a member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks at Sullivan, Ind. He was a member in good standing of all three of these orders at the time of his death. Bro. Loughery had been connected with railroad work ever since early manhood, having been in turn a brakeman, a fireman and an engineer, and was at the time of his death, chief clerk in the office of the General foreman at the Railroad shops off the Indianapolis Southern Railway. He had many friends and large acquaintance among railroad men, especially on this division on the Illinois Central. The estimation in which he was held by them and his fraternal brethren is manifested by their presence here today. For several year past, neuralgia and stomach trouble have caused him to suffer such extreme pain as to be well nigh intolerable for which he has had our sincere sympathy. Our most earnest sympathy also goes out to his bereaved wife and orphaned son as well as to his brother and sister, in this their great affliction. As we here consign his body to this its final resting place, we hope that the Grand Architect of the Universe will extend to him and to all of us, that mercy for which alone can be our only plea, when assembled before a just but merciful God, In whom we have affirmed our belief and declared our trust, before whom all from the least to the greatest, must, with reverence, most humbly bow.
