Obituary of Jeremiah Morgan, Crawford County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 2000 Virginia McClendon JEREMIAH MORGAN Jeremiah Morgan was born in Spring Hill, Champaign county Ohio, September 1, 1840, where he spent his early days. He came with his parents to Crawford county in 1853. At the age of 21 he enlisted in the cause of his country and was discharged in 1865. During the period of his enlistment he served 13 months in the Libby prision. After returning to Crawford county he was joined in matrimony to Miss Eliza Jane Myers, February 13, 1868. To this union were born ten children, four of whom survive him: Arminta Ann Morgan, Margaret Catherine Miller, Lucretta York and Emma Smith, also one foster-child, Chas. Hill and one brother Philander Morgan of Stoy, and eleven grandchildren. He was united with the M.E. church at what was known the early days as Old Union school house. He was again married eight years ago with Mrs. Margaret Shumaker of Newton, Jasper county, Ill., where he departed this life on Nov. 26, 1920, aged 80 years, 2 months, 25 days. Interment at Mt. Pleasant.
