Kirk   6 November 1907, Robinson (IL) Argus   James S. Kirk was born in Licking county, Ohio, December 18, 1838, and died at his home three miles norhtwest of Robinson, October 31, 1907, having been in a declining condition for over a year.   Deceased came to this county with his parents in 1851, they settling on a farm northwest of the city.  In the fall of 1860, he went to Marshall to attend school at the college there.  In the spring of 1861, when the first call for volunteers was made, he enlisted in Co. H. of the 21st regiment at Marshall.  During his three years of service, he participated in the battles of Fredericksburg, Stone River, Buzzard's Roots, Chickamauga, Resaca, Kenesaw Mountain, etc. Returning home at the experation of his term of service, he engaged in farming, purchasing 120 acres in sections 29 and 32, subsequently adding 120 more acres to it.   In 1879 he was married to Miss Emily Doty, who, with seven children survive him.  He served one or two terms as superviser of this township and was school officer for several years.  He was a member of the M. E. church for over forty years.  The funeral took place at the Kirk Chapel Saturday, a sermon being preached by Rev.
